Board Certified Specialist in Periodontics and Dental Implant Surgery, dedicated to saving natural teeth through advanced, minimally invasive care.
Dr. Kelleher completed his undergraduate studies at Oberlin College before earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Case Western Reserve University. He went on to complete three years of advanced specialty training in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry at New York University (NYU) College of Dentistry, one of the nation’s leading programs in the field, where he served as Chief Resident of his class.
Dr. Kelleher has been recognized with several honors throughout his academic and professional career. He received the 2024 New Periodontist Scholarship Award from the American Academy of Periodontology, was selected as an Ambassador of the Osteology Foundation for his expertise and interest in oral tissue regeneration, and received the Outstanding Student Award from the Academy of Osseointegration. He was also recognized by the NYU Periodontics Department with an award for outstanding service. Today, Dr. Kelleher remains actively involved in the dental community as a clinician, researcher, lecturer, and community administrator for the International Association of Dental Specialists (iADS).
Dr. Kelleher is dedicated to saving natural teeth whenever possible. Teeth are often recommended for extraction due to bone loss, severe gum disease, infection, or other dental problems. However, modern regenerative treatment can often provide another option, allowing patients to avoid tooth extraction. He has developed a particular expertise in treating compromised teeth that may have previously been considered untreatable, with a focus on restoring the supporting structures of teeth that are essential to health, comfort, and function.
In addition to his focus on saving teeth, Dr. Kelleher specializes in the full spectrum of periodontal and implant treatment, with an emphasis on hard and soft tissue regeneration (bone and gum grafting), cosmetic and functional periodontal surgery, and the treatment of advanced gum disease. His implant expertise includes dental implant placement, managing dental implant complications, and the treatment of peri-implantitis. Dr. Kelleher is also certified in laser periodontal therapy and has completed certified training in the use of two laser systems, SOLEA® (Convergent Dental) and Waterlase® (BIOLASE). He also completed additional training in the Pinhole Surgical Technique®, a minimally invasive approach to treating gum recession without using the patient’s own donor tissue.
Dr. Kelleher believes that periodontal treatment should be as thoughtful and minimally invasive as possible, with an emphasis on long-term oral and systemic health. He takes the time to understand each patient's goals, explain their treatment options, and develop a personalized approach designed to preserve natural teeth and maintain healthy gums for years to come. He believes that successful periodontal care extends beyond a single procedure, emphasizing ongoing periodontal maintenance and continued care to protect the health and longevity of each patient's teeth and implants. His interest in the connection between oral and systemic health has also led him to research and publish on the oral-systemic connection, exploring the important relationship between periodontal health, inflammation, and overall health. Above all, he takes pride in treating every patient with the same level of care, attention, and compassion he would provide to his own mother.
Outside of the office, Dr. Kelleher enjoys sports, fitness, and travel, as well as exploring all that New York City has to offer. He particularly enjoys discovering new restaurants, attending Broadway shows, and experiencing the city with family and friends. He is English speaking and also has basic proficiency in Chinese. He also has a strong interest in health and longevity, which reflects his broader passion for improving both the oral and overall systemic health of his patients. Above all, Dr. Kelleher believes that being a good clinician extends beyond technical expertise—it means remaining curious, continuing to learn, and building genuine relationships with his patients.
